54 Theory Hours pursuant to California Code of Regulations Division 25 Article 4. Licenses § 2516(b)(2)
We are pleased you have accepted our invitation to learn more about the pharmacology course we are offering to Certified Nursing Assistants/ Medical Assistant/ Nursing Assistant seeking licensure as vocational nurses in California based upon equivalent experience and/or education. The California Board of Vocational Nursing (LVN Board) refers to this approach to licensing as “Method 3: Qualification Based on Equivalent Education and/or Experience Authority per section 2873 of the Vocational Nursing Practice Act and section 2516(b) of the California Code of Regulations.” What Method 3 does is recognize that experience gained as a CNA/MA/Nurse Assistant can be the equivalent to formal education.
Although there may be variants in experience acceptable to the Board, according to regulation, you must have 51 months of “paid general duty inpatient bedside nursing experience” consisting of the following: • 48 months medical/surgical nursing • 6 weeks maternity or genitourinary nursing • 6 weeks pediatric nursing In addition, the applicant must also complete a 54 hour course of instruction in pharmacology that covers the following areas: • Knowledge of commonly used drugs and their action • Computation of dosages • Preparation of medications • Principles of administration

Finally, a full Home Health Aide class is here! No need to take CNA course if you are only interested in Home Health Aide State Certification. No State Exam needed. Hello IHG Family and Friends..... We have new certification class coming up DSD (Director Staff Development). It is for 3 Saturdays taught by our DON who has received the certification from QCHF. I know a lot of you have been working as a CNA and has gone to be a LVN's or RN's. If you are interested in DSD position in long term care this is what you need.
Please go to our program page and look up the requirements. I am very excited to roll out this program. Those of you who has the leadership and passion in long term care, why not look in to the management team as a DSD. You can receive 24hrs CEU's from BRN.
